Making Tax Payments Online
- Navigate to IRS.gov
- In the top right hand corner, click Sign In.

- Login with ID.me or create an ID.me account

- On the Home page’s dashboard, locate the Payments section to make a payment.

- Be sure to select what you are paying. Are you paying a balance that’s due from another year, or the current year? Are you paying Estimated Taxes for income that has no withholding? Be sure to select which type of payment you are making.

- The last really important field to take note on is designating this payment to a particular year. If you have debt from 2023, be sure to select 2023 from the year drop down. If you’re making an estimated payment, they only allow you to make it for the current year. Even if you have not filed for a previous year, you can still make a payment to apply to that year that will be applied against what you discover you owe at a later time, specifically, after your return is filed.

- After that, you’ll hit Next and follow steps to add in your bank or credit card information.
** It’s important to note because it may be very useful, you can schedule payments up to 365 days in advance.
